Maidou or McDull - What or who he is?
 |
One of the hottest Chinese cartoons characters at the moment is Maidou by his Chinese Name (麦兜) or McDull by his English names. Looking at the picture, you might think you have seen this pig before. You are right, besides Hello Kitty and LaBiXiaoXin (蜡笔小新) from Japan, Maidou is bringing in big profits for the toy companies.
Thousands of different models of toys from China come in the shape of this animated pig character.
McDull or MaiDou was created by two Hong Kong animators, and has captured the attention not only of of many Hong Kong and Chinese children, but overseas as well. This animated pig has also been given a statue on the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars, right where the hand prints of Bruce Lee and Jacky Cheung are.
Thus McDull is made into a symbol and icon of Hong Kong.
Maidou is a small male pig, going to kindergarten along with his other animal friends. He lives a simple life in Hong Kong, and is not really bright, but has a lot of dreams. He seldom succeeds, but tries again and again, and lives in his own colorful world. Being a pig in the first time and his funny cute child like voice makes him the favorite of kids and even adults.
Toy industries in China are making tons of money by manufacturing and selling McDull items like dolls, clothes, toys, mugs and other collectibles.
